Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What is High Mobility?

High Mobility is a platform that provides raw car data from connected vehicles using a single infrastructure and standardized format, enabling seamless integration for businesses.

What industries does High Mobility serve?

High Mobility serves various industries including fleet management operators as well as enablers, insurance, car subscription and rental services , and even asset tracking services.

How does High Mobility ensure data security?

High Mobility complies with GDPR principles, uses encrypted data models, and provides secure access points for data delivery. High Mobility’s SDKs use Public Key Infrastructure on top of the normal access token used in the OAuth protocol. Requests to the Auto API are handled by – but not stored on – Amazon AWS servers within the European Union. Third-parties also need approval before any data access is enabled. High Mobility reviews the application’s Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy and subsequently allows the application to initiate the driver consent flow for new customers and begin accessing vehicle data.

What are the benefits of using High Mobility?

High Mobility provides businesses with a unified platform to access standardized, GDPR-compliant connected car data from multiple OEMs, simplifying integration and ensuring data security. The platform supports modular data delivery, allowing businesses to customize data packages for use cases like fleet management, insurance billing, and sustainability tracking. With transparent pricing, enterprise-grade API integrations, and dedicated customer support, High Mobility enables businesses to streamline operations, reduce complexity, and scale seamlessly.

What are car simulators?

Our in-browser car simulators are designed to enable applications to be tested quickly and seamlessly during the development process. They are basically a simulated Auto API environments in that they react to API calls just like a real vehicle would. Each simulator is also unique with its own serial number and states, bringing the testing experience close to the real world.

Do I need to install hardware into the vehicle?

No. High Mobility is authorised to integrate directly with the official manufacturer back-end systems and provides you with a unified, software-only interface.

Do I need to be a registered company?

While you can prototype for free - moving into production mode and attempting to use live data API with your project requires you to provide us with registered company details. This is a legal requirement necessary for handling real VIN-based car data.
Data Delivery

Can I connect my fleet in regions other than Europe?

Not yet as we are working on OEM contracts that would allow us to provide data globally. Currently the live car data is provided in the European Economic Region. Customers in the following countries can grant third-party access to vehicle data: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Which car manufacturers (OEMs) are supported?

We support almost 30 brands via our API. All supported manufacturers with necessary documentation are listed under our Brands page.

How is car data delivered to customers?

We deliver car data securely through official OEM interfaces, packaged into an encrypted format. Customers receive the data updates via REST API, stream it to Amazon S3 or Azure Blob buckets, or use custom delivery options tailored to their needs. The platform’s modular design enables businesses to select relevant data packages and define scopes by brand, ensuring flexibility and scalability for various use cases.

What types of data can I access?

Customers can access a comprehensive list of data points, including mileage, vehicle location, energy consumption, charging sessions, diagnostics, crash reports, and more.

How often is the data updated?

Data update frequencies differ based on the OEM and use case needs. Refer to the Data page where we detailed various nuances.

Can I customize the data packages I receive?

Yes, customers can define relevant data scopes by brand and customize delivery preferences through the developer console.
Pricing

What pricing models does High Mobility offer?

High Mobility offers usage-based pricing and as a guidance we have outlined three pricing tiers: Starter (for small fleets), Enabler (for growing fleets), and Tailored (for enterprises). Essentially, most of our customers start with a pilot in Starter tier and smoothly move into Enabler tier as their activated vehicle fleet grows.

Is there a minimum fee for services?

Yes, a flat minimum fee of €99 per month applies and is credited toward active vehicles.

Are there any hidden costs or licensing fees?

No, there are no separate platform or licensing fees beyond the monthly minimum fee and per-vehicle costs.

How does the billing work for live car data?

You are billed on a monthly basis for the actual number of activated cars during the billing cycle. We will provide you with the breakdown of brands, data points and the number of requests on your invoice.

How can I estimate my costs?

The developer console provides precise cost estimates based on selected data packages and vehicle activations. Then the monthly bill is based on the actual number of vehicles you activate and receive data from.

Can I keep my data pricing agreements with OEMs and still use High Mobility's API?

Yes, High Mobility offers an option where customers can retain their contracts with OEMs and use High Mobility solely as a data infrastructure provider. In this scenario, customers pay only for the API usage fees without needing to establish new agreements with OEMs. This “API-only commercial model” is part of the tailored pricing plan, allowing businesses to leverage High Mobility’s unified infrastructure for secure and standardized data delivery while maintaining their existing OEM relationships.
Vehicle Activation

How do I activate vehicles in my fleet?

"As a general rule, one over-the-air (OTA) update initiates the data transmission process. To activate vehicles in your fleet, ensure all vehicles have the latest software updates, notify drivers about data collection, and remove any “primary users” from the vehicles. Fleet operators must also sign OEM-specific terms and conditions for accessing fleet data. Activation begins after over-the-air (OTA) updates are completed, enabling vehicles to transmit data securely. Activating vehicles in your fleet with High Mobility involves a straightforward process that ensures compliance and readiness for data transmission. The steps vary slightly depending on the OEM, but the general process includes: 1. Software Updates: Ensure that the latest software and application updates are installed on all fleet vehicles to enable data transmission. 2. Driver Notification: Inform fleet drivers about the data collection process and its purpose to ensure transparency and compliance. 3. Primary User Removal: Verify that no “primary users” are enrolled in the fleet vehicles, as this can interfere with activation (i.e for Volkswagen vehicles). 4. Consent Agreements: Fleet operators or third-party managers must sign OEM-specific terms and conditions for accessing fleet data, which may include one-time consent via dedicated portals (e.g., Tesla or Ford PRO)."

What is the average activation time for vehicles?

Activation times vary by OEM but typically occur shortly after over-the-air (OTA) updates are completed, after a short trip or in some case would require multiple trips to be completed.

Do fleet operators need to sign additional agreements?

Yes, fleet operators must sign terms and conditions for accessing OEM fleet data before activation can proceed.
