High Mobility Integrates Volkswagen Group Vehicle Data

September 24, 2024
High Mobility is an authorised data marketplace partner for Volkswagen Group Info Services. This partnership provides access to a wide range of live vehicle data, including mileage, consumption, geolocation, and vehicle maintenance information, supporting various use cases. With all major European brands available, the High Mobility platform is the ideal access point for next-generation fleet operations and advanced fleet management solutions.

Volkswagen Group live vehicle data can be accessed without installing additional hardware devices

Volkswagen Group is renowned for sustained customer satisfaction and high adoption rates. Popular models like the VW Golf, Audi A7, Skoda Octavia and Seat Ateca are widely used in rental, leasing, and corporate fleets, while light commercial vehicles such as the Volkswagen Transporter line, Caddy and Crafter serve professional companies worldwide. Now, Volkswagen's physical vehicle experience is being enhanced with new digital capabilities: Connected car data is revolutionizing fleet management, business operations, and customer retention by monitoring vehicle utilisation, fuel or energy consumption, and health conditions. This added transparency enables remote driver connections and smart decision-making.

Embedded telematics systems eliminate the need for additional hardware, reducing costs by removing the need for shipping and installation, and offering improved flexibility. With prior consent, users can select specific data points, ensuring compliance with the GDPR minimisation principle by sharing only necessary information, such as mileage or even geolocation data.

High Mobility is an authorised data marketplace partner to offer Volkswagen Group brands fleet vehicle data through a normalised cross-OEM programming interface. High Mobility already collaborates with more than 20 other popular brands, and the inclusion of Volkswagen, along with Seat, Audi, Skoda, and Cupra, allows High Mobility to offer the most comprehensive selection of vehicle brands in the European Economic Area.

Mileage, maintenance, and trip data is now available for Audi and Skoda vehicles, with Volkswagen, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, SEAT, and Cupra to follow soon.

Volkswagen Group brands telematics data is versatile and supports numerous fleet management purposes, covering all commonly requested use cases. The initial data set includes categories like Maintenance, Charging, Diagnostics, Trips, and Vehicle Location:

  • Usage-based services: As mobility shifts from ownership to usership, accurate mileage data is essential for automating billing in subscription, sharing, and long-term rental models. Monitoring vehicle location helps with theft prevention and relocation planning.
  • Automation and Convenience: Live data streamlines operations by replacing manual processes with integrated solutions for driver logbooks, parking, and live routing.
  • Transparency and Consumption Optimisation: Real-time fuel and energy data supports budgeting and benefits emission reduction efforts aligned with European climate goals.
  • Proactive Vehicle Health Management: With dynamic data points such as distance and time to the next service, as well as detailed check control messages, fleet operators can manage vehicle health proactively, thereby improving residual values measurable through the High Mobility API platform.

Adopting a single Connected Car API is the best practice for integrating multi-brand live vehicle data

Connected car data enables seamless integration between the physical environment and professional software, potentially leading to new business models. However, utilising  connected car data involves more than just integrating API endpoints like those provided by the Volkswagen Group brands. Each OEM uses different technologies and data formats due to the lack of a fully standardised API landscape. High Mobility offers a flexible technology layer, providing data in a normalised format regardless of the original support and offering both pull and push interfaces.

Some OEMs require additional security measures and custom validation methods, independent of GDPR requirements. High Mobility’s cross-OEM contractual framework simplifies the contract negotiation process, eliminating the need for individual OEM agreements. The onboarding team handles acceptance processes, allowing software companies to focus on building value-adding tools and services. High Mobility's industry-leading digital car simulator enables advanced testing, including OEM-specific data coverages, allowing simulated trips and the usage of generated data before working with real cars.

Once real vehicle activation is initiated, High Mobility's support team ensures smooth operations and proactively addresses any limitations on certain vehicles. Since the API format remains consistent even with new brands like the ones from the Volkswagen Group, compatible solution providers only need to undergo testing before expanding their offerings to new customers and drivers.
